About Dr. Annie Chou-Simpson
Dr. Annie Chou-Simpson is a board-certified Cardiologist, locally trained at the University of British Columbia. Her experience in health care started at Lions Gate Hospital in Grade 9 as a candy-striper. She completed her undergraduate studies in Honours Physiology in 2004, obtained her Medical Degree in 2009, completed 3 years of Internal Medicine Residency in 2012, and finished 3 further years of Cardiology Fellowship in 2015, all at the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Chou-Simpson enjoyed 3 years of practice in North Vancouver at Lions Gate Hospital and the North Shore Heart Centre, before moving on as the Director of General Cardiology at St. Paul's Hospital. She also served as the Medical Director of Providence Heart @ Davie, St. Paul's Hospital General Cardiology Clinic. Here, she also opened the first ever Chest Pain Clinic in Canada and served as the Medical Director for over 6 years.
As an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of British Columbia, Dr. Chou-Simpson was involved in over a decade of training new cardiologists, serving for 4 years as the Associate Program Director of the UBC Adult Cardiology Training Program.
After more than 10 years with Vancouver Coastal Health, including 8 years in leadership, Dr. Chou-Simpson decided to leave academia, administrative duties, and on-call work to open her own community cardiology clinic, near the new St. Paul's Hospital, so she can focus entirely on caring for her clinic patients..
Dr. Chou-Simpson has extensive research experience and has presented and published on various topics within Cardiology: specifically, Women and Heart Disease, Electrophysiology, Acute Coronary Syndromes, and Addictions and Cardiovascular Disease. She is also fluent in both English and Mandarin.
In her spare time, Dr. Chou-Simpson can be found strolling along the seawall with her supportive husband James and her little son Baby James. She is also an avid traveller and has been to over 50 countries.
